Virtual Medieval Cathedral created

Duke University student Charles Sparkman designed a fictitious Medieval cathedral for an art history course, which he then turned into a virtual 3-D model.

Sparkman drew plans for his cathedral for an assignment in Professor Caroline Bruzelius’ “Gothic Cathedrals” course. He then worked with digital artist Anya Belkina and Duke research scientist Rachael Brady to produce a rendering of the cathedral projected in the ten-foot-cube Duke Immersive Virtual Environment chamber.

“I think the most rewarding thing with any project that you craft or build is actually seeing it’s finished product and being able to experience it,” Sparkman said standing amid the projection of his cathedral. “So, I think this right now is probably one of the most rewarding parts of the project.”
